Letter from Jill Dunn, Head Teacher

As Head Teacher of Strachan School, I am very much looking forward to meeting you and your children. At Strachan School I will continue to build on the excellent learning and teaching experiences offered to your children. Parent Evening appointment slips will be ready tomorrow, and I look forward to meeting you all on either Monday 23 November from 5.00 pm, or Tuesday 24 November from 3.30 pm.

Wellingtons Please!

The children will be taking part in planting an informal hedge in our garden tomorrow afternoon (Thursday), weather permitting. We have already received the trees, which need to be planted now. All children will be taking part in this activity so please bring Wellington boots to school.

Farm Visit

On Monday 23 November the whole school will be visiting Ennochie Farm as part of our topic work on Farming. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn more about their local environment, and how the land is used. Thank you very much to Mr Sandy Anderson for supporting Strachan School in allowing us to visit his farm.

We will travel to the farm by coach, for a 9.30 am start. Please ensure children have a hearty breakfast that morning as no food can be eaten whilst on the trip. If desired, children may have a chewy bar in their pocket for consumption before boarding the coach. All children should wear trousers, also warm jacket with hat and scarf but no gloves. Wellington boots with 2 pairs of socks (if possible) should also be worn. Please cover any cuts and grazes with a waterproof dressing, and if any parent has concerns re allergies etc then please let us know as soon as possible. We will return before lunch.

Permission slip below to be returned by Friday 20 November.

Scripture Union Lunchtime Club

Starting on Monday 23 November, pupils will have the opportunity to join in activities during the lunch break, from 12.50 pm to 1.20 pm.

Rotary Shoebox Scheme (Reminder)

Please bring any items to school also now for Monday 23 November. Boxes to be filled in school on Tuesday 24 November.

Morrisons’ Let’s Grow Scheme

May we have any outstanding vouchers by Monday 23 November please? Many thanks.

ICT Resources

We have had technicians into the school during our Inset Day to look at our computers and Smartboards. They have advised us that the Smartboard in the P5-7 classroom may now need replacing, however as it should still be under guarantee this will not incur added expenditure to the school. I will endeavour to have these resources in full working order, as soon as possible, so that our pupils can benefit from them.

Congratulations!

Many congratulations to Mrs Audrey Donaldson, our P1-4 teacher for gaining Chartered Teacher status. We hope that she enjoys her graduation day with her family on Friday 27 November.

Fairtrade Christmas Fayre

Looking further ahead, we are planning our special Christmas Fayre afternoon on Thursday 10 December. We hope that you can come and join us, along with members of the community, in what promises to be a very interesting and enjoyable celebration of Fairtrade products.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of this letter or the work of the school, then please contact me at school. I welcome any feedback you would like to give.

Kind regards

Jill Dunn,
Head Teacher

Books for Schools

What is Books for Schools?

Times Education is committed to helping teachers, parents and children to gain access to some of the best books for young readers, and to help spread the enjoyment of reading. We are delighted to offer every school in the country the chance to increase the number of books in their library – absolutely free.

Our aim is to help you to encourage your pupils to read, giving them the chance to develop their imaginations and improve their literacy skills.

Each day during the school term in 2009, readers of The Times and The Sunday Times can collect tokens that can be redeemed for free books. With books available for as little as ten tokens, you could benefit from hundreds of books next year.
