September 2009

First Monthly School Newsletter:

Our first monthly newsletter this session and all children have settled in well. Our new Primary 1 pupil, Emmelia Daines has made friends with the other children in our younger class and, in line with Aberdeenshire Council policy, has started full days already (Monday 31 August).

We also have a full staff complement, with Mrs Lois Cutler having taken up her post of Classroom Assistant at the end of last term.

School Aims

School Aims and Vision I am attaching a copy of our School Aims and Vision statement as a reminder. These were developed as a result of consultation with staff, pupils and yourselves, and they set out what is important for the learning of our children. Copies of these Aims are displayed in the school, and referred to regularly.

Curriculum for Excellence

Curriculum for Excellence continues to be a strong focus for us this year. Current documentation has been adhered to improving teaching and learning and making activities even more meaningful for the children. Arrangements are also in place for opportunities working with the other schools in our Cluster network (dates to follow).
If you would like further information on any aspect of this, please ask.

School Meals / Privilege Transport

To clarify, the cost of school meals this session is now £17.50 for a book of 10 tickets, and preference slips to be returned (or emailed) on Thursdays.

A 10 journey bus ticket, in conjunction with a valid pass, now costs £2.80.

Head Lice

www.NHS.co.uk

Over the summer months there have been cases of head lice. Can I ask you to be vigilant, therefore, in checking children’s hair? Further information from NHS Grampian to follow.

Poetry Explorers North & East Scotland’

Ten of our older pupils at Strachan have had their poems from last year published in a book entitled ‘Poetry Explorers North & East Scotland’. Some of our families have already ordered copies but there is an order form in school which can be sent home if necessary.

Our younger pupils entered an LTS poetry competition last term, and Tom Austin was a joint winner in his age group. His poem entitled ‘Home’ has also been published in an anthology.
